About Ian Hornby

Ian Hornby has been involved in policy analysis, communications, and group facilitation/consultations work for more than 35 years, as a public servant within the Government of Canada, in federal politics, and latterly as a consultant, providing strategic advice to Prime Ministers, Ministers, and senior officials.

Since formally leaving government in 1993, Ian became a leading policy consultant specializing in regulatory and legislative analysis, providing his services to many Canadian government departments, particularly to health and immigration agencies.

Ian Hornby has completed numerous contracts providing advice relating to small business, occupational health and safety, regulatory policy, health and safety and environmental issues, paper burden, legislative renewal, and government transitions. His background and work straddles the two disciplines of policy analysis and communications. This combination has made him extremely adept at consultations and qualitative research, policy and options analysis, and then finally selling the results to management and communicating with Canadians.

Ian Hornby, a seasoned professional trainer, provides practical workshops that build policy-development, project-management, and briefing capacity. His time-tested sessions sharpen participants' abilities to:

• survey and analyze issues and develop a fact-based rationale for solutions;
• provide pertinent, strategic policy advice;
• communicate succinctly and clearly; and,
• evaluate results.
